A graveside memorial service will be held June 25 at Elmwood Cemetery in Minburn for Benny Lee Woodard, 84, of Jefferson. Benny passed away June 21, 2022, in Des Moines.
Pastor Bruce Webster of the Church of Christ in Jefferson will offer words of comfort.
Benny was born in Davis City, IA, on March 11, 1938, the son of Chester Woodard and Audra Marie (Cook) Woodard Smith. Benny grew up on a farm in Worth County, MO, near Denver. He worked with his stepfather on the farm, but his real love was hunting and fishing. Another hobby that he enjoyed was finding and collecting all kinds of rocks.
Benny accepted Christ as his savior, and loved his Lord. He was a member of the New Harmony Baptist Church near Martinsville, MO.
Benny was a hardworking man and a jack of all trades. He was able to do lots of things and do them well. He worked in farming, in factories, and even in Alaska. He enjoyed a turn on the dance floor when the opportunity arose. He retired at the age of 73, but stayed busy with gardening and fishing.
He married Sylvia Blitz in 1988 in Allendale, MO They lived in Iowa. She passed away in 2008. Benny married Diana Kamla in 2010. She survives at their home in Iowa.
Benny was preceded in death by his father, mother, and his stepfather Elmo Smith. He was also preceded in death by his siblings.
